The description also mentions "1983"; although they do claim the image is of the actual object. As ropey as World of Rare Books look, they usually know what they're selling. I'd be very surprised if they had a first edition in hand & didn't know what it was. Possible though...

Agreed... possible but incredibly unlikely. I don't think there are too many people left in the Western world that would price a 1937 Hobbit like that let alone a 'rare books' dealer.
My limited experience (3 purchases) of this seller is that their pictures are of the book being sold. And that is a picture of a 1937 Hobbit.
