This original pen and ink drawing was found recently and is now up for auction at Sotheby's on the 17th of December in London. Drawn by J. R. R. Tolkien some time after 1911, this is a very early sample of his skill as an artist. It is signed with a very early version of his monogram. Condition isn't perfect, but original artwork by Tolkien himself is exceedingly scarce and almost never appears on the open market.
