I noticed on reddit, https://www.reddit.com/r/tolkienbooks/ ... _arthur_does_not_line_up/, that the latest Deluxe editions have a similar issue to B&L and no longer match the rest of the books.

Sigh.

The later editions of B&L are also mismatched? ?
Yes, but not in the same way. On B&L the HC logo is higher up. HarperCollins likes to make everything as mismatched as possible.
This post from reddit shows B&L, https://www.reddit.com/r/lotr/comments ... _the_fall_of_gondolin_my/
Amazing that first prints of everything match so well, tbh.
Oh goodness! I’m missing first prints of LOTR, Unfinished Tales, and Silmarillion.
I haven’t had spare funds to go after them, but I’m always keeping an eye out.

Not easy to find 1st prints of LOTR and the Silmarillion, I'd look for Unfinished Tales first as it may be easier to find them.
When looking for the 1st print of LOTR, if you only have pictures of the Spine then it should include 50th Anniversary Edition on the spine, not sure when that was removed but if it does not state that then it is not a first impression.
The Silmarillion first printings can also be seen from looking at the spine, as they appear to have a crease in the middle from top to bottom, and again I think this was only in the 1st printing. Does anyone have a second impression and does it still have this issue?

If i can help, the mention 50th Anniversary Edition is not enough. I have seen copyright pages of books that were having this mention and were printed in Hong Kong.
The later reprints without this mention are all printed in China.
Personnaly I have a 2nd printing which is as scarce as the first print because it's also printed in Italy by IEGO, and it was run only for the 4 books box set (with Silmarillion, Children of Hurin and Hobbit 1sts)
Here is the first print run details (all 3 impressions are printed by IEGO Italy) :
1st Impression - 3,000 copies
2nd Impression - 750 copies
3rd Impression - 1,500 copies

Thanks I was looking at which editions had the 50th Anniversary Edition printed on the spine of the book, not looking at the copyright page but the spine of the book, could you check on your copies?
I saw a Ninth printing (Printed in Hong Kong) which was having the "50th Anniversary Edition" on the spine.
So I would say at least Impressions 1-9 have this mention.
To resume :
Only the first 3 impressions are the true print run and are printed by IEGO (Mention 50th anniv on the spine)
Printing 4 to 9 are printed in Hong Kong (Mention 50th anniv on the spine)
Printings 10 to ? are printed in China (No 50th anniv mention on the spine)
