1942 1st/3rd Hobbit with Dustjacket
Just to get this one into the digital record, so people can see a realistic past selling price, and aren't fooled into paying £8,000 for a copy from another seller with a dubious and not-admitted dust-jacket spine replacement...

Always nice to see legit sales.
For the completist: this probably isn't useful to anyone here (obscure paperback nonsense), but I'm posting it anyway. It's the first impression thus of this 1981 4th Ed. UK PB Hobbit cover (the proper first impression is the one with the title background color not filled in). This impression isn't listed on TolkienBooks.net but it is included in the printing history on all the reprints. Not much of a print run I don't think, I've had my eye out for these a long while and this is only the second copy I've seen.

Charity Auction of the 1st/1st UK FOTR, one page at the front removed, probably had an inscription on it.
I know it's for charity, but is a tatty jacketless page-missing sorry looking FR 1st/1st really worth over £2K?
Not for a copy in that condition, had not looked at the price when I posted it

Probably not We have a bid war it seems, I am really interested in the end price of this auction.
I'm assume this is the same copy that sold for ~$1980/£1618 less than two weeks ago. So disappointing to see books just filtering through bookdealers' hands.
Now asking for £5k!
This is amusing though:

Please look at pictures and if you wish for more message me, willing to deliver book in person within the UK. [Italics mine]

That is amusing indeed! I really don't have any sympathy for guys who just wish to profit from Tolkien.
