Urulókë was on a Amazon prime Lord of the Rings panel at Tolkien 2019, so will hopefully be able to comment on what was mentioned on that panel. Tom Shippey who was at the conference was not on the panel.

Very wise of Shippey to steer clear of that panel. He would have been a red rag to all those bulls in the room.

Here's the video from the panel, with Yours Truly speculating wildly and generally having fun.

I'm assuming most people read/heard the (official) announcement that Amazon's LotRs series will be filmed in NZ. It has some other blab about writers, producers, etc. I can't say anything I'm reading is filling me with hope for this...

Filmed in front of a blue-screen in NZ, mostly, if it is anything like The Hobbit.

I am underwhelmed that Amazon have chosen NZ, I hoped they would go with Ireland/Scotland and move away from film fan expectation that this will tie in closely to the movies.

From what little news became public, it seems like Scotland was definitely in the running, but political uncertainties made committing to five years at that location untenable.

I doubt the reason is political but rather down to labour benefits = cost. Disney have just committed to long term leases in the UK and other big studios are looking at deals too, BREXIT has not stopped films being made here. In fact the next decade will see the UK become a powerhouse in film and TV.

Urulókë, should we consider a new thread for discussion of the series generally, or can we continue to discuss here in your map thread?
