Yes, it is a 40th anniversary edition. The art I have seen is amazing!
Now that it is breaking publicly I can talk about it, whew! More soon.

In Peter Griffin's voice: "Uh-oh....!" ($$$).
I'm guessing the size dimensions will be the 'standard' size? (not over-sized like
The Lord of the Rings 60th anniversary illustrated edition or Jemima Catlin's illustrated
Hobbit (reg or deluxe) )
I'm also curious if this will feature
new artwork, or if it's a compilation of their existing material. Either way, I'm curious to see/know more - most notable, the cover art.
I appreciate whatever details can be shared at this point in time.
Also, it looks like there may be a paperback equal coming soon - r at the very 'least' similar cover art:

That paperback is not the new edition.
All three artists are making new artwork for the new illustrated edition, that I am aware of. Standard disclaimers apply, of course, as I am not involved in the production of the book and things can change too.

Cool! Looking forward to the 'official reveal' (cover art, synopsis of these editions, etc) There could be one more deluxe for me to get.....we'll see....)

This is the first illustrated edition I have been excited by in a long time. No coincidence that it isn't just more Alan Lee.

I like anything Alan Lee. And I’m curious to see how their three distinctive styles will complement each other.

So... if this is going to have an option of a "deluxe" format does this mean we might assume the current deluxe format is officially nearing the end in terms of new releases? G&GK to be the last do we think? The current format of deluxes has been on the go since 2004 (H), which is quite a long time.

I think you are right, G&GK is probably the last.

I doubt it. Not all Tolkien’s works can be illustrated like this, nor will there be a market for all his lesser known works at the higher price point of £100, so I suspect the new deluxes will be more for his better known works. But who knows ??♂️
