Hello,
I feel the need to bump this thread cause I'm looking for 1st / 1st of Unfinished Tales and I really don't know how much should I spend on it. I read in this thread that a good copy with no fading of blue should come at no more than 25, but that was a few years ago and I'm really having a lot of trouble in understanding how much should I spend for a good copy of this book (this problem applies to other Tolkien books as well).
Many thanks if you can give me an advice.
Max

The pricing advice still holds true, I think. They are pretty cheap -- just takes a while for relatively unfaded copies to show up.

Ok, many thanks. I am asking for photos of a copy which costs 35+shipping, but I feel it might be too high.
Is there any place where I can check reasonable pricing for Tolkien books? I've got the same problem with first editions of the HoME, I never know if I'm paying too much for each volume.

A book is worth the price you are willing to pay for it
If you don't want to be overpaying, then the best solution is to keep an eye out for the volumes you want. If it seems a good price, go for it. If not or when in doubt, wait and see if it sells. If it doesn't, the price is probably too high; if it does, wait for another copy to come up and start over again. This way you'll quickly gain some experience in pricing. Patience is the key word to it all.
