Greetings Again!
May I ask for you guys’ assessment on the authenticity of this signature on a later impression of the Hobbit.
I know that the collective knowledge and opinion from you guys trump anything else.

I would have to agree, I can see quite a few issues with the signature, in my opinion it is not Tolkien's signature.

I think it is a fake signature.

I apologize for my super delayed response. The signature was sold by a book seller on Abebooks.com. I am not quite sure if it is currently present on the listing.
I have been looking to purchase a Tolkien signed copy, but listing after listing, they seem to be bogus and forgeries so I have given up on acquiring one.

I think for Tolkien signatures, a well-chosen signed letter would probably a safer bet. I haven't seen many signed copies out there that I would ever feel I fully trusted unless I knew the history. Faking signatures is almost trivial.

I second the letter idea.

Jus wanted to make sure if everyone here unanimously agree that this signature is not authentic. I got the following response from the seller regarding the provenance;
"our client inherited this book as part of a larger library belonging to her late uncle Anthony King who was a graduate of Political Sciences/Economy at Oxford."
The dealers seem extremely honest. Are we absolutely sure that this signature is not real?
I am looking for a later edition signed copy of the Hobbit and it has been too long since I haven seen anything for sale in actual auction :(
The waiting is wearing me out...
