In a very general sense:

"TRADE EDITION An edition sold through bookstores, as opposed to those meant for private or specialized distribution." (from http://www.ioba.org/pages/resources/book-terminology/)

I was using that just to differentiate from "Deluxe" but I perhaps should just have used "standard" edition instead.

In general -
"mass market" - booksellers do not return unsold stock, they just destroy it
"trade" - booksellers return unsold stock for credit

The current run of "deluxe" editions are technically also trade, but the super deluxes were not.

I imagine everyone who wanted this has acquired a copy by now, but I thought I would let everyone know that Harper Collins has now ordered a second print run to be published, probably in time for Christmas. So, if anyone really wants a first print, this is the time to buy, since the first prints are still on store shelves.

Not sure if you are talking about the same book, as the Centenary Father Christmas Letters has not been published yet, comes out next month. Welcome to the site by the way.

Correct. The 2020 edition is being called the "Centenary" edition. Also, I have heard no plans for a slipcased/deluxe version of the 2020 edition, just standard hardback. So "deluxe" should still be clearly referring to the 2019 edition.

I've got the most recent paperback, and the audio CD, so I'm pretty much good for Letters From Father Christmas.
