I am looking to by the first two History of Middle-earth books (Lost Tales 1 & 2) published by Houghton Mifflin. I am looking for First Printings. What I have been able to find online are either Book Club Copies or outrageously priced. Anyone know where I might find a set (Near Fine or better), or have a suggestion of where to look? Thanks.

You should be able to pick them up on eBay if you are not in any hurry. I picked up first printings (retail, not BCA) of both of those books in NF condition a year or so back for $15-$20 each (can't remember exactly). Despite what a lot of booksellers might have you believe, there were a LOT of copies of these printed (I think the first US print of BOLT1 was 25,000 copies), so they are actually remarkably common.
Cheers

Have to agree with Stu... the challenge on Book I is to find the UK printed sheets, which there only four thousand of. Still, with a lot of patience and questions to eBay sellers, even these show up occasionally in very nice shape. Sorting the wheat from the chaff is the hard part...
Let me know what your price range is and I will see if I can help.

Thank you for your replies. I had this thread marked for notifications, but never received any.
If I could get both for $50-75 I would be very happy, Rowns (more if they are exceptional quality). Please e-mail me at
[email protected] if you find anything.
