I had no intention of bidding but I was watching this up until it was won. Not one bid was made on it until the last 20secs or so.

Experienced bidders, most likely. Absolutely no sense in bidding until the last 5 seconds using a sniper.
This one is interesting as it the front-board was in fairly poor condition (lots of dings and marks, which should not normally be there, though the leather is very soft). Surprised to see it go for that price. Driven by the CT signature, I guess.

Way too much. I don't think I'll get my hands over this one if prices are that high.
I think it is on the high side, but.... They originally sold for £350, so purely on UK retail inflation, would be £490 (according to calculator). Add a couple of hundred pounds for the fact that they aren't available any more, CT sadly is not in a position to sign anything else and you are already at £700...
...and the £730 bid was mine.
Not nearly enough though.
Not too bad a price for an paperback Oxford Poetry 1915, £250

I asked for some pictures of the booklet and have attached the title page. Unfortunately ffp is missing. In a first reaction they wouldn’t believe it but after some correspondence I’ve got this response:
I’m sorry to say that an unfortunate and unaccustomed error has crept into our handling of this copy, for which I would like to step in an apologise personally, as the person in charge of the Modern Literature here. Usually of course all books are painstakingly collated and checked for completeness, but it seems that this one slipped through the net, perhaps because of the inclement circumstances of the lockdown here in London causing many of us to be working off site and without ready access to our bibliographies at all times.
This copy is indeed missing the half title – which is unfortunate, so we will be pulling it from sale of course.

Nice job, that would probably have been sent out unnoticed and possibly even unnoticed by the buyer for some time. Good save! But why do they pull it instead of just lowering the price?
I assume so that they check if anything else has been missed, and to work out what price to relist it at.
Not eBay but not starting a new thread for it.
What do you all think about the rebinding and the price on this The Lord of the Rings set? I don't know much on price but I just think the life has been rebound out of this set until it is pretty boring. My opinion only of course.
