I got my copy of the Super Deluxe CoH about a week ago (#34, dunno, might have bought it from a frequent of this site) and I love it more than I thought possible to love a book. but there's one thing about it that, and this is pretty funny, I feel sorry for it about (instead of concerned for it's market value), it's bookmark. Mine is a frayed piece of string (silk, lest i be mistaken) that is pulled horribly at it's base. In general terms it seems way below the standards of the book (i mean each page fells like about 3 regular pages perfectly glued together(i simply love this book!!)) What does anyone else think about this bookmark issue? if indeed i am not the only one who got the goofy type?
thanks all!

All i am interested in is if they were all indeed the skinny, thin, ribbons? mostly i just want to know if everyone else's has started to unravel.
I did buy mine off of e-bay, but i am almost positive the gentleman I purchased it from hadn't previously taken it out to read by the fire, and likewise I have handled it as little as possible, although i do gawk over it constantly!!

I am still waiting to get my copies (living in the US, I am dependent on a friend in the UK who is travelling here to visit soon. Unfortunately the trip keeps getting postponed, now planned for February. Saves on shipping costs though!)
I would definitely contact Harper Collins about getting a replacement. The bookmarks shouldn't fray like that, straight out of the box. They will give you a higher number than the one you currently have, so if #34 has special meaning for you keep that in mind (but I think a nice bookmark has more lasting value than a particular number in this case.)

thank you for the advice. What's the best way to contact HarperCollins? Also, in order to exchange the book, will it matter that I do not have a receipt?

I just thought, I live in the US! Does anyone know if HC will only ship replacements to the UK, like they did with the book? I guess this could create somewhat of a problem. Unfortunately I don't have any friends that live in or are visiting the UK.

The end of the bookmark isn't finished on the super-deluxe edition or any of the deluxe editions (2004-2007), so they all unravel to some extent.
You can't return the book to HarperCollins as you didn't buy it from them.

I didn't think so. Thanks, I do feel better that it's not an isolated case. What is the best way to protect the bookmark? or am i being way to anal about something that's not really that important?

I checked my copy, along with the standard HC Deluxe and HM Deluxe editions (upon which the signed, limited edition is based), and the bookmarks are all identically frayed for the first 10mm or so. I think that's just the way they are supposed to be, so I wouldn't get too worried about it....
Cheers
