Agreed, it does feel strange to issue a new edition of "Pictures" when there is "Artist & Illustrator" "Art of the Hobbit" & "Art of LOTR" out there.
Another puzzling thing about the HarperCollins blurb, they seem to only reference the '92 edition and don't say anything at all about the '79 edition.

I would much prefer to see a revised A&I that compliments the' Art of' books.
I wonder if that will happen. The new edition of Letters isn't (false listing), so is this a made up listing? We'll see what the publisher announces....

Not sure what you mean here...It's not a false listing as it's from HarperCollins.

Have to agree with Mr. Underhill, the listing was made by the Publisher (HarperCollins) on the HarperCollins website, it is definitely an official publisher announcement.
Oh interesting!
A few months back, I saw that there was a new edition of Letters coming out listed on Blackwell's, which turned out to be a false listing. So when I read and saw an Amazon (both them and Blackwell's are retailers) link for Pictures, that's why I hesitant to believe it, based solely on retailer link.

That's true! Oops!
What happened was I was scrolling too fast (bit of network lag) so of your original post, I only saw the 'Amazon affiliate' portion during said scroll.
Let's call that one on human error or oversight on my end
