As it is printed by Nelson, I assume it is a Canadian not US edition.
Yes and...No
This book was published by Nelson at a time where H&M had not renewed their own right to publish this work, before recovering it.
As this edition was distributed both in Canada and USA for a limited time (and was the only one available at this time in these 2 countries), it is technically a canadian and us edition.

I wrote him after he sold it the first time since he claimed he had more Tolkien rare books. He said he would get back to me with others but never wrote again.
Last night he contacted me and he claimed he had problems with the buyer so he'd list it again and would accept a 999€ offer if I was still interested.
Then he listed under a different account claiming "he's still quarreling" with the other user and to be quick if I wanted to buy since he was getting other offers.
As much as I desire this book (and it's a lot), I'm not sure I'm willing to take the risk.

There is something very off here, I think. Better to steer clear.

£580,00 ............. that's insane ........
Doesn't surprise me. I bet you could list one in mint condition for $1000 and someone would buy it after enough deliberating. Downturns fuel fortune-making, and fortune seeks shelter from inflation. The collectibles market is just the place for this sort of unhinged buying behavior.
