did like Emilien and Roac and ordered one. Really beautiful (if overprised) set. A LOTR super deluxe ? :)
FYI…I ordered my copy via the US site and they charged $80 for express shipping (plus sales tax). The confirmation indicates it is coming from the UK. Hopefully will get it in 3-7 days.
Looks well made, but also kind of hideous! Hard pass from me. Not as bad as the brown sofa, but those boards are a mess.
Honestly stuff like this makes me glad I got my collection mostly put together well before the Amazon hype. $1500 is an order of magnitude more than I could ever justify paying.
Edit: Also this mismatch upsets me:

Ordered! Slightly disappointed to be charged $80 shipping when Blackwell's would ship last year's deluxes to Australia for free.

Yeah, £1,000 is a bit silly for a quarter-bound set of books (half that would feel more sensible). I agree on the mismatch (maybe the production copies won't be like that), but I think the whole design is unbalanced. Surprised at the reaction on here, tbh.
Don't doubt they will sell out though (but perhaps not quickly).
Nice to see FS give a little bit more technical detail than HC would; but still, £1000 feels like a very, very high price for what's on offer here. I'm quite surprised that it's been pitched that high, if I'm being honest.
Maybe some of you would consider throwing £1000 at an actual bookbinder & see what kind of product you get?
