Would people get angry if FS says something like "Due to the overwhelming acceptance, we're releasing 1000 more books of this edition!"?

It'd mean at least $1 million more for them!

Can't see that happening for many reasons. And would cause severe reputational damage.

If I had bought it I would not personally be angry or upset.

If I were FS I would lower the price to £800 (inc orders already made), up the quantity to 2000 and then offer a full refund to those who are not happy with the increased printing. FS stand to make a larger profit and demand could be better met.

Well that's it. I have to say I quite enjoyed the drama and excitement around this release. It was quite unusual to go to the Folio website looking for a new Tolkien release and having no prior knowledge whatsoever what was going to appear.

Much different from the normal months long advance notice of new publications in general. All together an interesting, surprising and exciting event!

That would murder their reputation. I think more likely they would do a different LE (maybe full leather) with all the same stuff in it, set the price even higher and go with that.
