@trotter - looks from your pictures like they shipped with some paper separating each volume, presumably to avoid rubbing. Do you think the tipped-in picture on each cover will hold up? Seems like these books could be "written off" in terms of value pretty easily in terms of accidental damage to that?
They do come with a sheet to separate each volume for shipping, I'm deciding whether to keep them or not, but they are not necessary as the tipped in pictures are recessed.

@Trotter, looking more closely at your images, is there damage to your slipcase? Various stains and a slight bump from what looks like something heavy on the case?
The case looks great in person.

Makes sense. I did wonder if they were recessed enough to be protected. Couldn’t really tell from the pictures.
They are probably the most likely part of the books to get damaged, so I think I will keep the sheets between them in the slipcase and will probably be an area to look out for on the secondary market in the future.
By any chance, does anyone here buy more than one copy and would like to resell one of the extra copies without the price being increased by hundreds of pounds ?
I know someone who missed the sale and might be interested

Thank you for journeying through Middle-earth with our new limited edition of J. R. R. Tolkien’s masterpiece. You are one of only 1,000 people who can own Folio’s The Lord of the Rings signed by Alan Lee. No more will ever be made.
Sounds like a commitment from the FS despite it being a huge money-spinner in such a short timeframe.

Commitment to not produce any more copies of this exact edition, but that was a given. I think further editions containing the same material are also a given in due course. Whether those are limited or trade editions is anyone’s guess. I’d love to see the same content in an aesthetically less divisive trade version.
This was the first hardcover Tolkien release I passed on in the last five years. I could have afforded it (just barely) but I was conflicted and eventually decided against it. I couldn't justify spending £1k on three books when that much money could make a difference to those in need. My opinion (I hope and assume) doesn't mean anything to anyone here as I'm not really a part of this wonderful community, but I wanted to comment because I really like this site and hope to stay at least minimally in touch. A few years ago I would have bought this immediately, sight unseen. Different strokes for different folks is all.

Pardon If I seem a bit dense, but I can't find this paragraph in the books - where is this written, please?
