It is indeed beautiful.
Edit [Thanks northman, I've just checked and there is indeed a number written at the rear of volume 3 - never realised that.]

It is indeed beautiful. I've never noticed a number on my set but yours looks the same otherwise. On the slipcase (yours and mine) it says "Gengivet AF Eric Fraser" which I asssumed meant something like "reproduced by Eric Fraser".
Indeed it does. I had always thought this edition (which I don't have) was the original illustrations. Somewhat saddened to find that it is the Folio ones.
Sad, yes but it is still one of my favourite sets. Even if Eric Fraser re-drew them, one can see from the photo of some of framed originals towards the bottom of this page that she does deserve the credit for the designs. Back to the Past

You should find a number at the back of the books. One of the last sheets of paper...i can take a picture when l get back home sunday. Mine is #352. I thought this set contained some of the queens originals as some drawings are considerably more 'raw' than others, but I must be wrong. Cant recomend the set enough though.

It is indeed a beautiful set! I really like the style and colors used on the binding.
Is there anyone that has (1) this Danish set or the FS set and (2) the CD booklet that reproduces Queen Margrethe's originals? It would be interesting to compare the original illustrations with Eric Fraser re-drawings.
For your information, the original Queen's illustrations (along with other ones from her) will be displayed this summer between the 13th July and 13th October in a French city called Cahors, where the Queen have a residence, within the scope of the Year of Danemark. A few Tolkien's events will be planned to go with the exhibition.

This is great news, thank you! I will try to attend.
Furthermore, I have confirmed that the illustrations in the Gyldendals version I mentioned before are also those redrawn by Eric Fraser. Therefore, unfortunately, there seems to be no LOTR publication with the Queen's originals.
Hello everyone!
First time here, though I've been roaming this website for a few years now as it's been incredibly helpful for my PhD on illustrations for Tolkien.
I'll be one of the researchers doing a conference in Cahors about the Queen's illustrations. I've been studying them for quite some time and I've found this thread particularly helpful as I was wondering about the Dutch 1977 edition. Thank you for confirming that it has the illustrations as redrawn by Fraser.

Welcome to the forum and am very pleased that you are involved with the Cahors conference.
Will not be able to attend, but am interested in any catalogues, books, etc. for the exhibition, particularly if they include reproductions of the original illustrations by the Queen.
