Gobbledygook, I thought so. I've got the LOTR set, but haven't reached out to my contacts in Croatia for the Hobbit and Silmarillion yet. The artwork on these Algoritam editions is quite nice.
Like northman, I was also going to cut back after Christmas :p. These arrived this week. The Chinese set is magnificent, extremely well-produced. There's even a special page at the front of volume 1 with a nice bookplate already attached for you to write your name on. There is a map in the box and maps bound in each volume. Pricey, but if you're going to have one Chinese translation, this is the one to get. The Danish set is illustrated by Ingahild Grathmer. You might know her by her real name, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. Apparently she was a Lord of the Rings "doodler" as a young woman and sent J.R.R. himself some of her drawings. He liked them and they have been featured in various Danish editions from 1977 on.

Was my wife telling you about me? LOL. Is that the Croatian Silmarillion? I've only seen that artwork on the Croatian translations.
Yes Taivo that is a first/first croatian silmarillion. I collect first printings of translated silmarillions and the croatian one is a bit unique due to Igor Kordejs coverart. Congratulations on your new chinese edition. I might add that Ingahilds art also features in the the previous FS lord of the rings and not just in the danish editions. That new danish deluxe set looks beautiful.
Those Croatian editions are getting harder to come by because Algoritam has apparently switched from publishing to the on-line casino business :p (At least that's the only destination when you enter their old web address.) I'm not sure that any other publisher has taken on the LOTR franchise for Croatia. The publishers in Belgrade are still pumping out Serbian editions, but I haven't seen a new Croatian one out of Zagreb in a while. (But I get both Croatian and Serbian out of sellers in Bosnia--since they don't have a pony in the race, they sell both with great service.)northman wrote:

What websites in Bosnia do you use? Thanks.
Olx is a ntnl version of ebay. Be cautious though. There's also knjiga.ba, but it takes forever to get an order and they're not overly reliable when it comes to what's in stock.remy wrote:

Lumen is another Croatian publisher who has published H, LR and S.
I steer clear of Serbian translations, they're horrible.

Personally, I've had good service from knjiga.ba (the Lumen Croatian set, for example). I guess it just depends on which clerk packs the boxes. The ebay-like sites are tricky to use sometimes overall. If you're in the EU they can be handy, but if you're asking them to send stuff to the U.S. that's another matter.gobbledygook wrote:

The recent Lumen edition of LOTR, H, & S in Croatian is, indeed, really nice. I had forgotten about them.
As far as the quality of the translations goes (Serbian or otherwise) I can't speak to that. I collect them because they exist :) It just depends on whether you need a reading copy in a particular language. Then it matters a lot.
Still much better than recent Croatian translation from Lumen.gobbledygook wrote:

You can buy Croatian Lumen editions on skolska knjiga site
https://shop.skolskaknjiga.hr/catalogsearch/result/?q=Tolkien
You can buy Serbian Publik Praktikum editions on delfi knjizare site
https://www.delfi.rs/pretraga?c=0&q=Tolkin
Both sites ship internationally. As for other older releases from other publishers you need to check local craigslist sites as those books are out of print. Algoritam first editions in great condition can get very pricey.
