Bit surprised at the '63 The Hobbit selling. That copy has been for sale for ever, because very overpriced for the condition.

Still had the CD and book in fine condition struck me as notable

Maybe it's rarer than I thought.
I'm surprised it hasn't been reprinted in such a long time

What about that Deluxe Hobbit? I think most of these go for around 100 pounds, but I may be mistaken.

The price actually probably wouldn't be that much over if it was all in fine condition, from what I have seen lately. But given the state of the box, seems significantly overpriced to me.
I'm in the market for a '76 (I have a '79 2nd print) and I flirted with buying that '76 Hobbit...but the box was just too much to overcome.
Thanks for your answers.
I bought a '79 print last year for 70 pounds (the box was not ideal, but decent). And even though it's not a first impression, I'm happy I completed the "deluxe trilogy" (I friend of mine brought them from UK, because shipping was very expensive).

Yeah, that sounds fair. IIRC, I paid £70 or so for my first (fine in the original paper in a near fine box) two or three years ago, but I felt that was a good deal at the time (and it was an NZ listing, so there wasn't much competition). Generally I seem to have noticed firsts at a couple of hundred pounds+
