Please Don’t Make a Tolkien Cinematic Universe

It is a well written article, I would push back on the simplification that Tolkien sold the film rights simply to pay his taxes, that wasn't the whole motivation behind it, nor is it the whole story.

It is a good article and makes some fair points. However, for me, it is missing the main one: we are still talking about an adaptation, but this is clearly not an adaptation, but a derivative work. The more a work of literature is influential, the more it will generate derivative works: some will be good, some will be bad, but the future of Middle-earth, like for many classics before it, is this... How many derivative works were generated by the Iliad ? All of them were the result of the talent of their creators and of the time they were written... Some are masterpieces, some are/will be forgotten... Time will tell to which category "Rings fo Power" (being part of a Cinematic Universe or not) belong...
