Wayne and Christina will be reading from
The J. R. R. Tolkien Companion and Guide at a local event in North Adams, MA on October 11th.
The event is sponsored by
Inkberry and
Papyri Books. There will be a reading by Wayne and Christina, refreshments, and the entire event is free!
For those in the Massachusetts area, this seems like an excellent opportunity.

Wow... why do I live at this side of the ocean?
Anyone interested to go there to get my set of guide & companion signed... and even better, bring along a camera and put the reading on line!

Ahem ... yes.
Had hoped to see and talk to them at Tolkien 2005 - but Christina fell ill. Then the symposium at Exeter College 2006 seemed to provide a chance - but much too expensive for poor students, so I decided against going, with heavy heart, however, again they had to cancel.
I would love to be able to welcome them this side of the pond again soon! (Maybe Loughborough 2012? Or could we perhaps have them as guests of honour at Unquendor's Lustrum in 2011?)

Of course, if anyone should be able to attend our talk in North Adams on the 11th, we’d be happy to see you. We’ll be reading from our Tolkien Companion and Guide for about a half hour, followed by a brief question-and-answer period.
Christina fell ill in 2006, actually, and as a result we had to cancel our participation in the Exeter conference. We had never planned to be at Birmingham in 2005, as we were then working furiously to finish The Lord of the Rings: A Reader’s Companion, which had to come out that year -- and then to return to the Companion and Guide which was overdue. We don’t know yet about the Lustrum in 2011 or Loughborough in 2012.

Apologies for mixing up years (or conferences) there - should have checked old correspondence and fora (some no longer available, however).
As for Unquendor's Lustrum, matters are still in a very preliminary state - we're just about trying see if we can get an organising committee together in the next half year.
A pre-registration leaflet for Loughborough 2012 was in the Oxonmoot 2008 registration pack last weekend.

I hope it goes well, Wayne & Christina; alas, we won't be there, but we hope to see you on this side of the pond soon.

We had eleven people in the audience, besides the two who own the bookshop. Not many, but appreciative. Christina read part of the
Chronology section of our
Companion and Guide on Tolkien's trip to Venice and Assisi, and part of the
Reader's Guide entry on Environment, while I did the introductions and read the Popularity subsection of the
Reader's Guide entry on
The Lord of the Rings.

Wayne, any update on the state of play with Tolkien Collector double issue? (Glad talk was appreciated!)
