Well - if they were sold out - then came back into stock for a day or two last week - I wonder how it could be anything other than a bookplate - as presumably Alan Lee and Brian Silbey did return in person to sign more copies. But as always - never take anything for granted...

Same here, we're checking with HarperCollins about it.

I have heard back from HarperCollins and these bookplates are to fulfil outstanding signed Forbidden Planet orders, as Alan & Brian did not have time to sign all the copies at the Forbidden Planet event.

They simply cancelled my pre-order. I assume they won't be now fulfilling it with one of these...

When I read the response to Trotter from HC, the first thing I considered is that they (FP) cancelled the outstanding orders. So how they then fulfill outstanding orders is curious.

If Forbidden Planet gets a stock of signed editions I expect they'll just put them up for sale again --- instead of reaching out to those who had preordered and they cancelled to see if they are still interested.

Whole thing seems like it's going to be a giant cluster**** and I expect if these do all go to Forbidden Planet they'll probably end up sending some of back to HC.

Best guess is that FBP will not be fulfilling cancelled orders and will now re-advertise that they have books with bookplates you can order from them.

Agreed. Makes a bit of a nonsense of the suggestion of "fulfilling pre-orders" though. Maybe they will email affected people.
