I'm now imagining a (slightly) alternate universe where Professor Tolkien submitted the lively poem "Pedantry" to the Oxford Magazine in 1933.
I'm no expert, but is it certain that the "what's the point...?" comment in pencil is definitely by Christopher? The article/blog post itself refers to Christopher's "brief but precise two-word note 'It does' " in ink, and not to the longer annotation in pencil. Could the pencil annotation be by the later owner, Robert T. Meyer?

I'm fairly confident that the comment in the margins is CT's handwriting. It seems to me to be consistent with other examples I've seen.
