New pictures of Edith, Michael, Christopher, and Priscilla from 1932

I'm no car guy, but it looks like the one behind Michael and Christopher in the one photo might well be the Morris Cowley that Tolkien bought in 1932, according to Scull and Hammond. They further note for 1932 that the Tolkiens took two family vacations, one to visit Hilary and his family in Evesham, and one with C.L. Wrenn and his family in Lamrona Cove in Cornwall. Might these photos have been taken during one or the other of these vacations?

Lamorna Cove is a steep sloped valley leading to the sea, so the location is unlikely.

If the photos were taken during the holidays it is more likely that this would have been near Evesham, which is on the banks of the river Avon.

However, the architecture of the thatched house near the waterway, the width of the waterway and the little boats do not seem to match with the Evesham area.

Judging by the tamed waterway, they could have been taken near a canal more locally on a Sunday outing .

The photo with the pollarded tree seems to have been taken near a wider waterway than the others. The Thames?

What about the handwriting?

I don't think the handwriting is by J.R.R. or Edith, possibly Hilary or Ann, his wife.

I don't think this is anything to do with Hilary or Magdalen. Their children's names were Gabriel, Julian and Paul. Handwritng is not theirs either. If it was brought in Norwich, maybe the photos are of the Broads.

I must admit that when I saw the photos of the boathouses it reminded me of the Norfolk Broads and in particular around the more inhabited regions such as Wroxham. However, this would be around four hours drive from Oxford and could not, I think, have been a day trip. If it was a day trip then there are several possible locations such as Dorchester and Sandford where there are tributaries and other little waterways as well as the Thames itself.
