Two Towers US dustjacket with no price

Looks like it has the notch in the “r” in Towers and the white bands at the top and bottom of the front of the jacket so I’d say a 1st edition 1st printing jacket

I believe that's a 1st print jacket. You can see the small nick on the right side of the r in "Towers" which only occurs on the 1st print. Unless my eyes deceive me.

It came on a 1st Impression Book.

But there is no price on the Dustjacket. I thought the price should be $5.

So can it be a 1st Impression Jacket?

I got the book about 8-10 years ago and assumed it was a later impression jacket.

It does look like a 1st impression jacket to me as well - I haven't come across any references at all to unpriced jackets for any impressions, so I don't think this is identifiable that way.

I wonder if:

• an early jacket (review copy?) was printed before they decided on the price
  
• the price has faded (extremely unlikely)
  
• a misprint that escaped quality control
  

Lots of possibilities and no real way to find out, I would guess. Interesting nonetheless!

Well I don’t have access to my books but according to the Tolkien Collector Number 21 a printed price of $5.00 appears in the upper right corner of the front flap beginning with 1/1, and continues unchanged until TT 1/11 (1965), when it was changed to $5.95.

Maybe Mr. Underhill can verify?

I don't have a 1st jacket to confirm against. I checked Hammond's Bibliography and Frisby's identification guide in The Tolkien Collector #21, both of which say it should have the $5 price.

This 1st that just sold, the jacket is priced. I'm not at home to pull mine out and check though to compare.

You're right Urulókë I was thinking of FOTR. Those are the early jackets that are not priced.

You're right LanceFormation, it's $5 until the 11th print.
