This signature looks strange. Any signature experts here? Comparing it to another one on Return of the King - Mod edit - removed this image
The line underneath looks weird especially. But I'm not the expert here.
Thanks Aelfwine.
I feel like anything Tolkien signed he took great pride and care in doing. Just the lazily scrawled line itself is a dead giveaway in my opinion.
I emailed the lister to see what they had to say, and they said this:
"Hi, the signature you have is from the later years of Tolkien, my is from the late 50s. His signature changed ever so slightly over the years, you have a very lovely signature."

Coincidentally, I was speaking to the owner of that signed copy of RK last week. He sent me that photo of his book. It wasn't Dagoth, though.

One day though
I hope you do, one day. Be sure to check in here though, before you buy. There's a lot of folk who can put you right and avoid a costly mistake.

Thanks. And I see why. Someone just linked that particular hobbit on a facebook group without doing any due diligence. Dangerous!
