Probably, I'm in the UK like him and I did point that out in my comment.
I have imported things from the US before most recently in December, there is shipping, insurance, tax plus 20% more different VAT tax on top of the shipping + insurance + tax you paid just to transport it. From what I read the rules are different if you buy from a business vs individual.
But as I also said if i had a spare £30k I would buy from him rather than doing the shipping myself, for a few hundred quid I'd take the risk myself.
One point I was making is that every time there is an export between dealers there is an inevitable premium passed onto the buyer but I guess if you can afford £32k then its more of an annoyance than a deal breaker. Key point though is that it looks like the same pic, not the cost

That's a common practice of this dealer.
I feel like Tolkien collecting is very competitive! You aren’t just competing against other collectors, but dealers too who have made this either their livelihood or a side hustle. It’s interesting to see what’s being bought out by dealers like Dogfark and what isn’t. I talked to him once and he mentioned he does not like websites like forum auctions. Interesting, though his reasoning why was strange to me. He claimed they could be “restored” books or not entirely legitimate and then implied buying from dealers like him is safer.Mr. Underhill wrote:

I can understand his reasoning, if you pay a dealer by credit card especially amex in UK then you can get your money back relatively easily if its over £100, you should always use a CC or credit for big purchases, a private seller won't generally take credit cards and you would have to go through the courts. Don't know if its the same in US?
