I do love these old reviews, keep them coming!

Last day or two had a few small things added to my collection

the trade HarperCollins The Battle of Maldon - haven't had a chance to start reading yet

The Hobbit dramatized by Patricia Gray. I used to have a copy of this, but I haven't been able to locate it in a few years so I went ahead and got a replacement copy inexpensively. This guarantees that my original will show up very soon again, right?

Psi-Phi #6 (1960). Good content on the formation of The Fellowship of the Ring fan group. (Side note - I am definitely looking for other early Psi-Phi fanzine issues, if anyone happens to have any ?)

Lastly, The Book of Dragons - stories selected and illustrated by Michael Hague. This has an outtake from The Hobbit of course, so I think it qualifies for Olwe's List of books published on or by artists inspired by Tolkien

Great stuff there Jeremy. Interestingly I never knew of the Book of Dragons until just last week I saw it purely by accident and ordered a copy myself.

Me either! I found the Psi-Phi issue I was looking for at a dealer and they had a good deal on shipping for multiple items, so I browsed their inventory and found the Gray Hobbit and the Hague Dragons.

Remy, yes i do ! This is a reissue of L'Encyclopédie du Hobbit, released in 2013, one of the few encyclopedias/guides available in French. It is a reference because it was written by a group of enthusiasts, in particular from Tolkiendil (the French Tolkien Society), like Druss who is present on this forum.
I had planned to make a video about it, but I'm quite late on that
That said, I can take pictures of the contents if some people here are interested.

Looks like "L'Encyclopédie du Hobbit" is being or has been translated into English. English release scheduled for October 2023.

Yes, we knew the information but it was currently limited to a few people close to the editors and we did not yet have details on the release date.
So thank you for the link, Remy, it provides valuable details

Odd mailings this week.
Couldn't pass up the socks, from 2022. Not sure I'd wear them. The calendar was a late find by LaurelinArts on Etsy. The book well. We'll see what pops out relating to LR of T's prose version.

Arbor I love the socks. I bought my wife a pair of LotR map shoes recently and these would go great :D

I've been reading through a copy of 'The Wife of Bath' by Vera Chapman as it passes through my hands. As a Latin/Medieval History grad, I love a bit of Chaucer and extra when I'm reading from a JRR associated copy. :)

Vera signed the book with her Tolkien Society nickname 'Belladonna Took' with some elvish underneath. I'm assuming it's just her name again in Elvish. Can anybody read it and confirm?

I recently acquired an early/mid-1970’s Japanese LOTR set. One of the first translations to appear in Japanese.

And what a nice set! The hardbacks have been barely read, each book has a ribbon bookmark, there are a couple fold-out maps (in almost perfect condition), numerous black and white drawings, and each volume is in its own slipcase with unique color artwork.

I’ve seen this set before, but never made it a priority to buy it. I am really pleased I decided to pick one up!
