Trotter is aware of what an association copy is.
Having a famous person's last name written in block letters (not a recognizable signature) in a book, does not make it an association copy. I can do that in five seconds with a pen on any old copy in my library! This needs a lot better provenance to be considered an association copy.
In addition - I think Trotter's other point is that even if this is a completely legitimate association copy, there's not two thousand pounds of value being added to it (thus, mentioning it here in the wonders thread). The seller seems to think that "ALDISS" written on the first free endpaper is pure gold.

Right, I won't speculate if it's legitimate or not. I did say in my first post (if it's legitimate)
For association copies, I always purchase ones with their owner's bookplate/seal!
