What ‘black jacket editions?’ I can’t think of any editions with black dust jackets….

The official Tolkien calendar, this year containing 13 stunning paintings inspired by the Three Ages of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth. Featuring breathtaking paintings and drawings by John Howe, with new pieces unique to this calendar.

The official Tolkien calendar has become an established publishing event, eagerly anticipated by Tolkien fans the world over. Previous Tolkien calendars have become much sought after collector’s items, and this year’s will doubtless be an essential purchase for Middle-earth fans everywhere.

This year’s calendar features 13 full-colour paintings by the world-renowned Tolkien artist, John Howe, depicting scenes from across the panoply of tales contained within the History of Middle-earth. From the legendary First Age when the Valar shaped the world, and the Second Age which saw the fall of Numenor, through to the Third Age which culminated in the War of the Ring.

Now presented for the first time in calendar form, and accompanied by a brand new painting and numerous pencil drawings, and with an insightful introduction by Brian Sibley, Tolkien fans can enjoy these dramatic depictions of the Three Ages of Middle-earth Age in greater depth than ever before.

Morgoth’s Ring cover art for calendar cover art. Good choice. They picked my second favorite volume of HoMe. 🙂

I got excited for a moment, but alas, a paperback. The world really does not need this, it needs a standard hardcover of the expanded Hammond/Scull edited to replace the silly pocket edition.

HarperCollins seem to be continuing their matching signature editions too.
