The letter was not written by Tolkien and I expect he did not even know about it, very difficult to see how they arrived at USD 3,500 for this.
I was about to ask the same thing. I guess it doesn't hurt to try and get the money. As they are honest about it being Secretarially signed, they can ask what they want and someone can pay them if they think it's worth it. I feel more likely it will remain unsold.Trotter wrote:

I agree. I would not pay $3500 for that secretarial letter--not worth it at all.
