Hey yall, I have a bit of time today so I’ll try to get back to some of y’all who’ve emailed. Thanks for the patience! I’m gonna try to start making an inventory starting Monday. Anything that I can’t identify or I think is important, ill post here as well as some cute shelf pics like this. And the people wanting to borrow the books, I really don’t know about that, seems kinda sus. In the mean time, here is another random shelf pic to hold yall over today, lmk if see any bangers here! As always, Thanks for all the messages and support. Business will open eventually open, ya boy just needs some time!
I'm not sure what you mean by "banger," but this shelf alone is incredible, if it is what I suspect it is. Remember that when you take the inventory that you mark all of the Edition/Impression numbers and dates as well as you can. Actual photos of the frontice pages would be good. Also, if the volume has a dust jacket or not. That is very important to collectors and improves the value of the book. Of course, anything signed by Tolkien is additionally important.
Looking forward to watching this progress.
Take your time!
The Hobbit laying across the top of your most recent photo, with the orange jacket. Can you share more photos of the jacket when you have a moment? It appears to be in excellent condition, and is quite scarce!

Literally a beautiful photo to behold. Salivating, so jealous omg—although I'm sorry for your loss. I wish you good luck on your endeavour; it must be super daunting to go through. And I hope you find some wonderful buyers who treasure these works just as your father clearly did!
Your proofs, 1st edition hobbit in jacket (I am assuming based on prior knowledge more than these photos) and the Foyles dustjacket are likely to sell at auction for over $100,000, yes - and that's just a small portion of this shelf pictured.
If you would like serious help in figuring out what you have and how best to help you disburse this collection, I am more than happy to help. Please be polite, though.

It was a meme of someone spitting out cereal to convey my reaction…😑. I’m at work yall, I can’t do any in-depth reply’s at this time.

I believe TolkienBookBoy was originally being polite. The comment pictured originally said over 1 million, and was later edited to say 100k after I posted my comment that corrected his to 100k.
I’ve seen nothing but good manners from him so far, seems very pleasant to talk to. 👍

Tolkienbookboy is obviously new, and the rules for posting here are not easy to find or readily viewable. This forum is definitely more heavily regulated than the typical Internet forum where images and gifs are popular ways to respond or react to things. We might want to permanently link posting rules somewhere for new folks.

Agreed. I genuinely don't think there was any ill-intent there. Nuance can be hard on the internet, and it is also worth remembering that social media etiquette from young 'uns is quite different than from us oldies (well, I'm an oldie, anyway) -- I often have to remind myself of the differing social/interaction expectations 35 years extra years on the clock make. Even people in their mid 20s make little to no sense to me :)
