Letter link: Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Ed Meskys • 2 February 1972 (#829)
I can correct Marquette's description of this letter (which in fact pertains to Carpenter #344: Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Edmund Meskys • 23 November 1972 (#437)). The 2 Feb. 1972 letter is in fact a very brief note (typed, signed) by Tolkien expressing sympathy for Ed Meskys's "afflictions" (he had by then gone blind) and thanks for the support of the Tolkien Society [of America], of which Meskys had been President.
For more on Meskys see the File 710 obituary here.
