Note that the 1977 letters to Snelling are from Jim Allan (not Allen), the editor of An Introduction to Elvish, which was published that year. You can also see that Allan refers to Bill Welden and Chris Gilson from among those "who are really into Elvish", and to his notes from Marquette that were then in circulation among the same. (And of course the obligatory question of "who/what is Tom Bombadil?")
