Tolkien, J.R.R. 'The Hobbit or There & Back Again', 1937 1st ed, 1st impression, (of 1,500 copies), pub George Allen & Unwin Ltd, London, ten uncoloured illustrations, map endpapers printed in red and black, original green cloth covers and spine with illustration of mountains, moon and sun at top and Smaug illustration looking left at the bottom. Provenance: gifted to the current vendor's great aunt and godmother Rosfirth Murray, (Great Aunt Ros) who was the daughter of Sir James Murray, Editor of the Oxford English Dictionary. The Murrays were friends of the Tolkiens and the vendor was gifted this edition by the author after having taken tea at his home in Oxford in 1957
