Heritage will be auctioning two letters sent to Timothy J. Wheeler, editor of the magazine "Rally", in 1966. Wheeler had asked Tolkien if he would contribute something to the magazine, and Tolkien declined. Wheeler then did a biographical article instead, and sent a copy of the issue to Tolkien. Tolkien's secretary then sent a thank-you note in reply.

This lot includes the typed signed letter from Tolkien (and envelope), the typed letter from his secretary (and envelope), a carbon copy of Wheeler's letter sent alongside the issue of Rally, and the original portrait of Tolkien commissioned by Wheeler for the article.
