That's quite a handsome looking set. Not a critique of the binding as is (especially since I have yet to see it in person), but I would love it if there was a nice clothbound edition of this set. The cover illustrations would need to be moved inside the book, but I'd be alright with that given they are already featured on the slipcase as well.

Looks amazing.

Includes "Complaint of Mim the Dwarf."

"The Song of Beewolf" looks very interesting to me - 17 pages. Seems like something that accompanied Sellic Spell, but maybe could be part of Tolkien's verse translation of Beowulf? (I known I'm dreaming). Can't wait to get this soon!

Edit: I have edited this post to remove links/references to the now-deleted Reddit post, in light of Findegil's blog post and subsequent posts on this thread.

We had asked our editors and publicity person at HarperCollins about posting a table of contents - our obligation to go through proper channels - but as photos have just appeared on Reddit we've felt free to provide better images (PDF) on our website, linked in our new blog post. Our main reason for the post is to call attention to an article about the Collected Poems on the Guardian website, for tomorrow's Observer.

Thank you for putting this out Findegil, and for addressing this situation. We know how hard y'all worked on this and I for one, cannot wait to dive right in on release day and experience this wonderful compilation.

Thank you both for providing an official contents list. Our collective excitement has gone up a notch, if that were possible.

Beyond Bilbo: JRR Tolkien’s long-lost poetry to be published

Lord of the Rings author’s three-volume collection will reach bookshops 50 years after his death
Dalya Alberge

He is one of the world’s most famous novelists, with more than 150m copies of his fantasy masterpieces sold across the globe, but JRR Tolkien always dreamed of finding recognition as a poet.

Tolkien struggled to publish his poetry collections during his career, although he included nearly 100 poems in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Now, half a century after his death, 70 previously unpublished poems are to be made available in a landmark publication. The Collected Poems of JRR Tolkien will be published by HarperCollins next month, featuring more than 195 of his poems.

His son and literary executor, Christopher Tolkien, had wanted his father’s poetic talent to be better known and, before his own death in 2020, worked on the project with two leading Tolkien experts, the husband-and-wife Christina Scull and Wayne Hammond.

Previous count of unpublished poems is 77 rather than 70, though it might well be a definition matter. The Guardian article aslo seems to take the number of entries (195) as that of poems (240+).

Bealuwérig is so interesting!
