You miss 100% of the shots you don't take...

Yeah, that was a bit crazy - I was very surprised to see it get to that level as it had very grubby boards.
The first printing of SoME is very hard to come by nowadays... But that price is incredible. The late Stu wrote:

It has always been one of the more difficult ones to come by for some reason. Back in the days of HoME being at its most expensive (in the early 2000s), it was the expensive one (outside of PoME and WoJ). I don't have a variant with that A&U price sticker - I have the bar code sticker variant (publisher-clipped with a Unwin Hyman 16.95 price sticker) and an unpriced, unclipped variant with no ISBN. Ain't no way I'm paying that kind of money to get an A&U price-stickered copy!!!!

This is the first impression variant that I acquired first - which I don't believe Neil specifically documents in his excellent article on the subject. I purchased this in the mid-late 1980s (I don't recollect exactly when). It was a special order from the local bookshop from Unwin Hyman. I remember being surprised at the level of edge wear to jacket, but this is how it was supplied by UH. I'm guessing they had had copies in stock for quite a while and they had had quite a bit of warehouse shuffling adding barcode stickers and then clipping and adding UH price stickers. I'd guess that this is the final variant.
