Oh okay! Thanks for posting them. You said you had a very good first impression with this set, I'm curious to know what are your thoughts after a more detailed investigation.

Per Lawrence's research, 11 arts are new in the Folio edition, 8 of which have appeared here, i.e. the 8 * items I marked: https://lawrencemvc.wordpress.com/2021 ... 7/alan-lee-illustrations/

And here is Mount Doom from the Brazilian edition, so there are 62 paints in 2024 HC deluxe in US, UK and BR, 4 of which are not featured in Folio, and 3 from Folio are not found here.

According to Harper Collins, this new edition was supposed to feature all the paintings from the Folio. Which are the three ones that are not featured in the 70th anniversary Deluxe?

To my knowledge, there were 11 new illustrations in the Folio:

- The Bridge of Khazad-dum (Fellowship front cover) ;
- Minas Morgul (Two Towers front cover) ;
- Gandalf and Pippin at Edoras (Return of the King front cover) ;

- Lothlorien (Fellowship frontispiece) ;
- Rauros (Two Towers frontispiece) ;
- Eowyn and the Witch King (Return of the King frontispiece) ;

- Caradhras (replaces the old painting in Fellowship book 2) ;
- Scouring of the Shire (replaces the old painting in Return of the King book 6) ;
- Grey Havens (replaces the old painting in Return of the King book 6) ;

- The One Ring at the bottom of Anduin (end papers) ;
- Gandalf and Aragorn at Minas Tirith (insert print).

Of these 11 paintings, I think only the last one (Gandalf and Aragorn at Minas Tirith) is not featured in the 2024 deluxe. No?

Oh I was assuming the illustrations would be identical to the Brazilian one and didn't notice "The Ring" is used here. And I thought "The Pass of Caradhras" probably refers to the old painting (wouldn't the new one receive a new name to avoid confusion?).

Worth adding that the Folio 2022 also featured some minor modifications to existing illustrations. I would assume that the new one will be based off the modified versions. That said, they have been modified more than once - certainly colour grading has been done previously. If you look at the 1992 and the 2022, there is quite a bit of difference - the colour palette has been compressed a bit, presumably to make them a bit more tonally consistent. It does mean there is minor detail loss in some parts of some of the Folio illustrations vs the earlier HarperCollins. I posted an example on here when it came out.

I think a good way to deal with this is for me to share my spreadsheet, and you can leave comments on areas that you think are incorrect/missing/etc.

Hopefully this could be as 'accurate' as possible list of the illustrations.
