Maybe the edition has sold better so far than they'd predicted and holding back some for this doesn't make sense economically.

Could be. I can't say I'm bothered - if it was just going to be the same thing with an Alan Lee signature added, I wouldn't have been willing to buy another set (not like I don't have tens of AL signatures at this point).

Yes, not bothered by this either. Not quite sure how many Lee signatures I have, but it is a lot.

Also, right in line with what they had previously told us last month, that it was "one of many projects they were considering" but nothing was definite yet.

This edition has MANY defects. When mine arrived, the art card for The Two Towers was missing. I went through the three books, page by page, and I have seen inconsistencies in the thickness of the text, ink spots (including on the illustration pages) and the illustration of Bilbo at Rivendell from The Return of the King had TONS of white spots, and I wonder if this was only my examples or if they all share this defect.

I sent it back, the second one arrives tomorrow. I wonder how many of them will pass between my hands before I get a decent example.

A little heads up:

I just received the second example and this one is perfect, fortunately. So my quest ends here!

After receiving this edition in its protective box, I was tempted by an unboxing without comment, more neutral and "international" than my usual videos where I analyse the latest French releases.

I hope this will help some of you who are still hesitating to get a clearer idea of what the box set and books contain :)
If it does, I could do it more often !

anyone know why US edition is listed as having 140 pages less?

What about the Bilbo at Rivendell illustration ? I checked my edition and there are lots of white spots on it, otherwise it's perfect ...
