Highly interesting review. Tolkien's Lost Chaucer was among my favourite works on Tolkien too. Looking forward to Tolkien On Chaucer when it arrives.

Just a quick update on the physical condition of Tolkien on Chaucer, I am glad to say that the kink running through the book has almost entirely flattened out after a few weeks under a heavy weight. I will give it a break while I read a couple of chapters and then give it another week which should have any last kinks worked out.

Now that the practical research phase has been duly carried out and the outcome satisfactory,thanks for that onthetrail,I will proceed with adding heavy weights until Chaucer confesses.
