Hello all, I have two jackets that I believe both belong to the 1975 Hobbit published by Unwin. One is on a 1975 printing, and the other is a mismatched set of a 1972 text with 1975 jacket. On one jacket (75/75), the price reads £3.00 and on the other (72/75) £3.25. Was the price changed partway through the printing? As this was last printing of the 3rd edition, I know it can't belong to a later one. I haven't been able to find anything on this so I thought I'd pick your brains. Thanks in advance!

Yes, there are two states of the 1975 jacket. The price was changed and unlike other years that had price changes via stickers (e.g. 1971), the 1975 had a completely different jacket. I assume they printed only a limited number of jackets initially, given they didn't just go with a sticker change. I have most of the different price states (including this one).

Interesting, thank you, Stu! Is there a list with the different states of the Unwin 3rd edition Hobbits somewhere? I know there are articles for the first and second editions on this site, maybe a 3rd edition article is on the horizon?

I'm not aware of any guaranteed comprehensive lists out there. There was quite a bit of clipping and repricing in the 1970s (strong inflation, I guess). I can have a look later and tell you the ones I know about, but isn't guaranteed to be comprehensive as extra ones seem to show up from time to time!

Presumably leftover 1970 jacket re-used in 1971. I'll have to keep an eye out for that variant. Never ending. Sigh.
