I have added an additional clause to the site's Terms of Use this week, in Section 3:

  • Don't post or share links to AI / machine generated content (images, video, audio, text, and other materials). We are opposed to the unethical sourcing of training material.

I personally have deep reservations about the legality and ethics of how the existing models have been trained on copyrighted works, and what effect using them is having on artists, writers and others. The moderators agree with me, and so we have decided to add the above clause. There are a multitude of ways that machine learning and software assisted development can be used properly and with great benefit, so there will of course be some grey areas, and of course this is a fast moving area and we can and will revisit this policy as time goes on.
