Starting a Season Three thread with an interview with the showrunners, though of course they discuss Season Two as well.
Prime Video has officially confirmed The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for a third season.
The Rings of Power is in preproduction, and filming of the hit fantasy drama will begin this spring at the show’s new production home at Shepperton Studios in the United Kingdom. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the renewal news since the show’s second-season finale aired in October.
The Hollywood Reporter can reveal the show is executing a major time jump going into the new episodes, with Sauron now crafting the iconic One Ring. Here is the exclusive logline: “Jumping forward several years from the events of season 2, season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.”

When it quotes "major time jump", I was thinking that we can finally move forward 100's of years at least to maybe get back on track. But it then says "Jumping forward several years". Why do I even bother getting excited any more...this show causes me grief.

Why was the One Ring forged this show asks? To win a war Sauron already started for no apparent reason (wrong chronology and or reasoning for the starting of war between Sauron and the Elves) even though it's right there in the Appendices.
Sauron goes to war to recover the Rings of Power after the One failed to control the Elves...sigh. Ummm, not a very promising start for season three.
