For under £100 this is not bad as well.

For a second impression it is pretty good.

Yeah, the thing about that book is that I really just want to go for the cheapest, irrespective of edition. I will wait for a good £50 one I think.
Well I just spent £27 on a first edition 1997 Folio Silmarillion in fine condition - snapped up a new buy it now on ebay. Very happy with that, as it completes my folio set.
£73 left - any more ideas? Wish I had £800 for the folio deluxe lord of the rings on ebay right now!

I've always liked this Folio style, but this set does lack the slipcase. For the difference in price you might be able to find a slipcase (just happen to know of an extra one hanging around, but shipping is kind of prohibitive).

I agree these are my favourite Folio editions of "The Lord of the Rings"
The books state they are bound in "Elephant Hide", anyone have any ideas what this means?

I think i remember looking this up whe I bought my copy and found that "Elephant Hide" is just a tough paper which doesn't scuff easily. Not made from real elephants.
Aw, that's a shame. (kidding)
It's my favourite Folio edition, too. The topstain is a blood red, the head and tail bands are lovely; and the pattern on the front board is ingenious. They fit in the hand lovely, too.
But you Need a slipcase with them!

Here's a nice item if you don't mind a little scuffing to the spine

I think I would rather just send the rest to you David, and keep doing so each month until I take receipt of a rather special trio of books!
