Tolkien family inscriptions

Now that I have got most of my Tolkien books into one room, I have come across the following two book inscriptions.

They are both written, I believe, by Michael Tolkien, son of JRR, and are of particular interest to me for two reasons. Firstly, they come around the period when JRR stayed at Michael’s house to complete the writing of LOTR. Secondly, because Woodcote is a pretty little Oxfordshire village which I know very well!

The second inscription with Joan’s name is also interesting because the book was clearly a Christmas present to her with the gift tag glued into the book, stating ‘from John to Joan, Christmas 1949’.

I wonder if anyone would have a view as to the identity of John? It does not look much like the 1977 signature of John Tolkien posted in this forum, but that is nearly 30 years later.

I have several books from the library of Michael, and a few more from that of Father John. The sig. in the second book certainly looks like his, from around that time.

Here's another example of John's handwriting (in a typically marked Michael book) for you to compare...

Thanks for the responses - I think I'll have to mark this one as inconclusive.
