I'm still interested in working out when HarperCollins will sell out of this book, but am amazed that they allocate the numbers (out of 500) at random, when you buy the book.
Elwë recently sold #490 on eBay and bruffyboy in his blog (
http://collectingtolkien.blogspot.com ... uper-deluxe-edition.html) bought #379 from HarperCollins last year. I just bought another copy from them (with the 30% discount) and got #254 this week.
Beren was asking for questions for David Brawn, one must be that for future limited editions, buyers expect some consistency in distributing the editions, but this does not appear to happen!

The initial rush of CoH orders were certainly filled sequentially (I got #3), but they subsequently gave up on preserving order. I picked up copy #461 (if I remember correctly) roughly a year and a half ago. I think they on-sold copies to other distributors (and these may well have been on a sale-or-return basis) so I imagine the numbers would naturally be all over the place.

Yes, Trotter, I have wondered the same. I purchased my most recent copies only about a month ago. I picked up 2 CoH and 1 S&G during the 3 for 2 sale. I received #490 and #492, so I thought they must be almost out of them. I had actually considered ordering a couple more just in case I could snag #500/500. Not that it would be of any higher value, but maybe kind of neat, anyway. (Is that ridiculous or what! What have I become!)
Oh, by the way - I ditched my former name of 'Alpingloin' in part because it implied that I was partial to Tolkien's Dwarves, which really isn't true at all (
not that I discriminate, or anything). Mostly, I changed it because it was kind of dumb.

So Elwë, you're alpingloin?

Khamul,
Yes, it is true. One an the same. I thought a name change was a long time comin', I'm not particularly good at coming up with names for myself and was never very happy with the former. We'll see how Elwë works out. I imagine it will go quite well, until I become consumed by my lust for a Silmaril, and ultimately ensnared by the doom of Feanor! (We'll focus on the good times, for now though.)
Regards,
Steve (my real name )
I think
Khamul is already
consumed by a lust for a Silmarillion, and ultimately ensnared by the doom of Feanor in collecting Silmarillions

I'm glad to see my fanatical
Silmarillion acquisition obsession, finally being recognised. Incidentally, in the
Recent Visitors section to the left, it still says
alpingloin. And, although I haven't gone back & looked at your old posts
Elwë, you do now seem to favour, with much regularity, the use of
italics...

Khamul,
The reason for the recent visitor section still saying 'Alpingloin' is that I am able to change my display name in the account settings, but not my actual user name (login name). Maybe Urulókë can help me straighten this out.
P.S.
Not exactly sure about the increased usage of italics. Now that you mention it, though, I have been feeling a little slanty lately.

Bug in "Recent Visitors" fixed. Thanks for pointing it out, guys!
