o well... why does this not surprise me?

If any of the failed bidders do not get this wonderful book, they are welcome to my copy at the same price

(I'd buy another copy for a fraction of this price)

The auction has ended with 18 bids and an end price of $102 (£63) ??? for the Bookclub Hobbit.

what is going on in the world?
My thoughts/conclusions are 3 fold:
1 Bidders simply do not understand that some sellers are putting a high price in off chance some mug will bid for it without checking the rest of ebay first!

2 Bidders get carried away with battle to win

3 Foul play at work

Let you draw own conclusions

If you put it in the right order:

1) foul play by bidding yourself with some fake accounts
2) attract some bidders (without knowledge of what they are buying) who just bid because there are some bids already (must be interesting!)
3) bidders getting carried away in the bidding war (must have it!)

and then repeat this 1 or 2 times to make the outcome of any auction look fantastic!

"A FEW WORDS ON TOLKIEN COLLECTIBILITY...

I have been collecting Tolkien books for over 30 years and it really galls me to find people selling items for ridiculous prices claiming they are "rare" or "highly collectible"; and what's worse is, naive people are paying it~!"

I bought a "buy it now" item off this particular seller at an excellent price. It was so good in fact, he refunded the money and refused to honour the transaction, saying "it was a mistake". I guess he never heard of taking responsibility for his.

Again, am I missing something? I know it's a nice set, but £600+?
