Well, I just have to say I'm jealous of all your finds at those prices. I still do not own that set.

I'm jealous as well, I do own this set, and my copies have good dust wrappers but badly foxed books.
I paid at least three times the best price so far. I do think they are a nice set to own though.
Seller has had 2 offers so far, hopefully around the £60-90 mark
I don't think that Wayne & Christina will be pleased with this auction of "Artist & Illustrator"
£569 and it's yours.

Good Grief - and have you seen who's selling it? A Tolkien specialist... I wonder where that price comes from? (mine's signed, BTW)
edit: I bought my Readers Union set ages ago; at one of the Bloomsbury bookfairs, IIRC. I think it cost around £45.00. The books are VG+; as is the RK jacket. The other two jackests have minor wear; all are unclipped.
I think I also got my 1963 buckram deluxe set in the Pauline Baynes box at the same time, for around the same price. The books and the box are in VG condition; similar to those found on Deagol's site.

Garm, I'm equally jealous of your signed Artist and Illustrator...it's one of my favourite books and I have been hunting for a signed copy for a long time with no luck!! Nice item

I can't speak for Scull and Hammond, but I imagine that if you sent it to them with return postage, they would be more than willing to sign it.
I'll let them confirm that, though, as they frequent this forum quite often. :)

Oops - I was wrong about the price of one of my items; just looked at my Baynes set and I see it's marked £150. Still, not bad, eh!
A Hobbit paperback on eBay claiming to be signed by "The Professor", which they are, as is every copy produced because they all included a printed copy of his signature

Sent notes to the seller, but will also inform any buyer after feedback is left and I can see who they are.
eBay need to fix the fact that you cannot inform buyers about problems before the auction ends.
It sold for £40, a lot of money for this paperback.

Here's a Hobbit -
You are bidding on an Ultra Scarce Hardcover edition of Tolkiens Masterpiece the Hobbit. Printed in 1954 before his popularity really began to soar these early volumes were as a result printed in scarce numbers.... These early editions are guaranteed to continue to increase in value over the coming years, particularly with the impending release of THE HOBBIT movies in the years to come... Needless to say quality hardbacks like this are near impossible to find. Will make a prized addition to any collection or an amazing start to one. This book is an investment and once bought tend not to be sold so can be a one off opportunity."

It's not even in that good a condition..
